Monks

There are more than 4,000 Tibetan Buddhist monks living in Southern India and many of them have arrived from Tibet quite recently. They are often from very poor Tibetan families and have no independent means of financial support. Conditions are basic and the quality and quantity of food is poor. The monks live in shared rooms with no heating or cooling and a shared bathroom. The Monasteries cannot afford to provide medical or dental care. There are many monks who show great promise with their studies of Buddhist philosophy.

Geshe Sonam Thargye lived under these conditions for 17 years, while studying up to 18 hours per day. It wasn't until he received Western sponsorship that his life became easier. Geshe-la says he is indebted to his kind sponsor. If you decide to take part in sponsorship you would be contributing to preserving Buddhist philosophy, Tibetan culture and monastic tradition. Sponsorship enables the monks to eat 3 meals per day, to purchase text books, robes, shoes, ritual items and to make offerings to their teachers. It also gives them access to medicines. Your support would be greatly appreciated and repaid by hard study on the part of the monk.
For the price of a few weekly cappuccinos you can make a positive difference to someone's life, AUS $15- to $25 per month is all that is needed.

Nying-Jey Projects fundraising activities during 2002 and 2003/04 had the focus or raising funds to improve upon the monks very basic accommodation at a Monastery in Southern India - and WOW!! the pre and post  pictures above say it all! An absolutely wonderful achievement by ALL the people involved in the tour in many and varied capacities.
Thank You to all concerned.
